Early America

Life in Colonial America Prior to the Revolutionary War

Different Occupations of Early Colonists

Our early American colonists did not have quite the same employment opportunities as we do today. There were no TV producers, car salesmen, rocket scientists, and certainly no computer programmers. The first emigrants to America had occupations concerned primarily with simple, basic survival in the New World. They were, for the most part, skilled laborers, who could make things most of us now only dabble in as hobbies.

Drafting the Declaration of Independence in 1776 became the defining event in Thomas Jefferson's life. Drawing on documents, such as the Virginia Declaration of Rights, state and local calls for independence, and his own draft of a Virginia constitution, Jefferson wrote a stunning statement of the colonists' right to rebel against the British government and establish their own based on the premise that all men are created equal and have the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The Greatest Nation

Declaration of Independence (1776)

I wonder how many of us could OR would honestly say this today?

Parting Shot

We, as MEN, should make it a priority to understand our country’s history, how we became free and how the country has gotten to where it is now. Our forefathers were not passive men when it came to the rule of law as it imposed into their lives, nor the were they naive to the cost of freedom. Many men (and not only men) of this country have lost their moral compass, their understanding of what it means to be a true MAN, and many truly do not care about America’s tomorrow and only care about themselves. This cannot solely be attributed to the countrymen’s own true will, but we as MEN have succumbed to being apathetic, fearful and let the country continue to meander down the path she is on. The trajectory of our nation will continue to spiral until the MEN of this country will stand together as one and have each other’s back. If this coming together ever happens again, as it did in the late 1700’s, there will surely be much pushback and turmoil. There will be more dread than the anything the British ensued upon our young country…and there will be suffering. There will be suffering before there will be change. It is true, much blood was shed so that the freedoms of this country are beholden forever by her citizens, yet that does not mean one is free to partake in any fancy they desire. This is not a political newsletter by any means, but the men of this country have held their tongues and shackled their hands as it pertains to the direction this country has taken over the past 60 years. The following is but just a small impression of where we are currently as a nation, and it is so true. The night of the debate (Trump vs. Biden) last week (June 27, 2024), one of the MEN of our neighborhood group text shared: “330 million souls and this is the best we can do?” I would suspect the founding fathers would not only share the same sentiment but would be wholly ashamed of the country their beloved America has become. I have no solutions to share except that we as MEN should kneel to the Father and pray for the wisdom of Solomon (I Kings 3: 5-9), the courage of David as he faced the giant Goliath, and the conviction of Paul as he was steadfast in his sharing the gospel of Christ. If we humble ourselves as MEN, and seek Him, I truly believe the Lord will bring the great greatness of this country back and share it with His MEN.

Love you guys…and Stay Strange!!
